How long does a furnace last in Ohio?

Furnaces are expected to last for 15-20 years on average. While some furnaces can last for longer, it’s expected that you will experience a breakdown around or after the 15-year mark. Eventually when repairs become exceedingly pricey, it’s time to switch to a new unit.

How often should I replace my air filter?

Air filters should be replaced every 30 days. While you can go as late as 60 days, it’s advised to stick to a schedule and replace your air filter once a month. Remember: your HVAC system is a forced-air system. It relies on good airflow to function properly.

When do I need to replace my furnace filter?

It can depend on the thickness of your furnace filter, but generally, every 90 days is the rule of thumb. Your furnace filter is located at the blower compartment of your furnace. This is a DIY task you can do, just be sure to take proper safety precautions and power down your HVAC systems before doing so.

Which heating system is right for me?

Gas furnaces provide some of the most efficient and rapid heating, though they come with safety concerns such as live pilot lights and the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning if they aren’t properly maintained. Heat pumps work to both heat and cool your home with great efficiency. Ultimately, it comes down to your budget and what you want out of a heating system. We can help you find the right solution for your home and family needs.

How long does a water heater last in Ohio?

Tank water heaters powered by gas will last 10-12 years. If a tank water heater is powered by electricity, it can last for 12-15 years. Tankless water heaters can last for 20 years or more. If you have hard water (water with high levels of minerals such as calcium and magnesium) it can shorten the lifespan of your water heater.

How do I know which size electrical panel I need?

It depends on how much electricity you expect to use. Electrical panels come in 100 amp all the way up to 400 amp sizes. The more power you expect to use, the bigger your electrical panel maximum amperage will need to be. We can help you determine which electrical panel size makes the most sense for your home.

What is short-cycling?

When your air conditioner or heater receives a signal from the thermostat, turns on, and begins to operate, but then stops before the desired temperature is reached. It will then try to change the room temperature again, or "cycle." Short cycling indicates problems with your HVAC unit because it shouldn’t turn off before reaching the desired temperature under normal circumstances.
