4 Main Ways to Prevent Boiler Problems

Your boiler is out of sight and out of mind… until there’s a problem that prevents it from doing its job. Eventually, it wears down from ongoing use, and you run into a big repair. You get it done, that’s all well and good, but how do you prevent these large-scale breakdowns in the future?

That’s what we want to help you with. We have four different ways you can help your boiler so it incurs less wear and tear, and ideally, endures less breakdowns over the rest of its lifespan. We’ll celebrate the reduced number of repair bills later, but for now, let’s break it down.

Never Skip Maintenance

We know, maintenance appointments aren’t fun, and they always feel like they sneak up on you even though you planned it out a year in advance. What some homeowners do is rationalize the fact that the boiler still works as a reason to not get maintenance, even though it’s all about being preventative in the first place.

Boiler maintenance in Fairfield, OH gives your plumber the chance to protect your boiler by checking for general damages, leaks, gas regulator setting alignment, and even soot and debris. All of these seemingly small tasks accumulate and equal one really nice

Powerflush Every Five Years

Powerflushing is a service that you don’t need all too often, but it’s immensely helpful to maintain the efficiency of your boiler while preventing breakdowns at the same time. A powerful stream of water pulls away calcium and magnesium mineral buildup from the inside of your boiler, stripping it away so it doesn’t obstruct your pipes or important boiler components.

Bleed Your Radiators Now and Again

Did you know that a lot of boiler problems can be solved just by bleeding your radiators? It’s not every problem, of course, but it’s enough of them to make this little trick worth it. The best part is that this is something you can DIY–there’s no requirement to hire a technician to bleed your radiators.

Keep Those Pipes Insulated

When you don’t insulate your pipes, you waste money heating water. Your boiler sends hot water through pipes that connect to your radiator, but if the pipes aren’t insulated, the cold metal of the pipes will impact the temperature of the water. This can require your boiler to run for longer to compensate for this, but if you insulate your pipes, you drastically improve your energy efficiency.

Insulation only needs to be installed around your pipes once every 10-20 years, so it’s a small investment that helps you save money every single month. This can be a DIY project if you’re a bit handy, although you can also ask your HVAC technician to help with this as well.
